Why Did We Forget How to Be Human?

Every once in a while, I catch myself sitting on our patio after everyone has gone home. The Finnish sauna is still warm. The evening sun is beginning to set. Someone has left a towel draped over a chair. The plants are moving with the breeze, and for just a few moments, everything feels exactly as it should.

Peaceful.

Simple.

Human.

It makes me wonder...

When did we become so disconnected from the very things that kept us healthy for thousands of years? When did we forget how to be human?

how to be human

For almost all of human history, we lived outdoors. We woke with the sun. We walked barefoot across the earth. We experienced heat, cold, wind, rain, and changing seasons. We moved because life required it. We fasted because food wasn't always available. We gathered around fire. We rested when darkness came.

Today, we've built lives that are remarkably comfortable, yet many of us have never felt more exhausted, anxious, or disconnected.

We spend our days indoors under artificial light. Our homes, cars, and offices stay the same temperature year-round. We move from one screen to another. We eat around the clock. We rarely experience true silence.

Then we wonder why we don't feel well.

I don't believe our bodies are broken.

I think they're simply asking us to remember.

That's why I created Elemental Wellness Club.

Not because I wanted another wellness business.

Not because I wanted to sell memberships.

I wanted to create a place where people could reconnect with the rhythms that have always been part of being human.

To feel the warmth of a traditional Finnish sauna.

To experience the clarity that comes after stepping into cold water.

To sit outside with the sun on your face.

To breathe deeply.

To laugh with people you've just met.

To leave your phone in your locker and realize you didn't miss it.

To remember what it feels like to simply be.

Some people call these practices biohacking.

I don't.

To me, they're reminders.

Reminders that our bodies are incredibly intelligent when we give them the environment they were designed for.

This isn't about chasing perfection.

It's not about doing every wellness trend.

It's about creating small rituals that reconnect us to ourselves.

Maybe that's why so many people tell me they feel different when they walk into Elemental.

They can't always explain it.

But I think I can.

It's because the moment you step inside, you're invited to slow down.

To put away your phone.

To be present.

To experience heat, cold, light, movement, conversation, stillness, and nature—not as treatments, but as part of being fully alive.

We didn't invent these things.

We simply created a place where you can experience them again.

The elements haven't changed.

We have.

Maybe it's time we returned.
